What Causes Frizzy Hair?
No matter your hair type, anyone can find themselves fighting a losing battle against frizz. However, once you know what causes frizzy hair, you can implement steps to prevent it. The good news is that there are several ways to keep your locks looking frizz-free. Read on to discover the main causes of dry, frizzy hair- and some helpful hair care tips to ensure your style stays smooth and defined.
Why does hair go frizzy?
Hair can go frizzy due to combination of humidity (due to hot weather) and how hydrated your hair is to begin with. The main cause of frizz is a lack of moisture in your hair which causes your hair to absorb moisture from the air.
Factors which cause frizz
Not using heat protection: Frequently using heat styling tools such as hair straighteners and curling wands can strip hair of its natural moisture, resulting in dry and damaged strands that are more prone to frizz. To combat frizz, make sure that you always use a heat protecting spray and keep heat styling tools at a low temperature to prevent damage.
Over-brushing: Brushing your hair too much can lead to breakage, and when you have brittle lengths and split ends, your hair is more likely to frizz. Try to only brush once in the morning and at night to smooth out any tangles before heading to bed.
Split ends: The longer you leave split ends, the worse they’ll get. To prevent dry ends, it is recommended to get the ends trimmed every 6 to 8 weeks.
Hot water: While a hot shower may feel relaxing, it can strip your scalp and hair of natural oils that keep it moisturised. That lack of moisture can lead to more frizz.
